Cave Creek’s reputation for maintaining its unique rustic
roots and desert rural character while other towns and cities are asphalting
over their heritage is not the result of policies dictated by any past or
present Cave Creek town council. It’s
the result of past and present town councils responding to the voices of the
people who live in Cave Creek.
Every Creeker is affected by decisions made at the town council meetings, yet very few Creekers attend these meetings. For those unable to attend town council meetings, the link http://www.ustream.tv/channel/town-of-cave-creek-council-meetings allows you to live stream the town council meetings from your home or office. Any lack of personally attending town council meetings should not be interpreted as there being a lack of interest in town matters by Creekers, however. Rather, it should be interpreted that the lack of participation by Creekers is due to the lack of an informative and educational resource for all things related to what’s happening at Town Hall.
Aristotle is attributed with saying “It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.” According to one recent statistic over 50% of Cave Creek residents have some level of college education, i.e., educated minds. We all are not going to agree all of the time, but we all must engage our educated minds, utilize our critical thinking skills, and participate in town matters in order to keep the town vibrant. There are financial, zoning, conservation, and preservation issues under consideration by the town council right now which will permanently define and potentially re-define the town’s image. It is more important than ever that Creekers know what’s going on at town hall and have a forum in which to engage in informative discussions that can lead to solutions that benefit the whole town. An engaged populace and informative discussions decrease the potential for short-sighted decisions and increase the opportunity for generating creative solutions to the issues we all face.
Ergo, the goal and purpose of this Cave Creek Town Hall Blog.
